17 Year Old Female Rescued After Falling 200 Feet Down Embankment into Creek

On February 28, 2023, around 11:15 PM, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call requesting assistance for an injured person about 1/4 mile from the Weir Creek Trailhead off of Highway 12. Dispatch was advised a 17-year-old female had fallen 200 feet down an embankment into the creek.

Due to weather, rescue and medical helicopters were unable to respond.
Personnel on scene were able to get her back up to the trail and to the Kooskia Ambulance, which was staged at the Weir Trailhead. She was then transported to the hospital in Missoula.

Idaho County Sheriff Doug Ulmer wishes to thank our deputies who responded, the Idaho State Police, US Forest Service Powell Division 7 fire personnel, the Kooskia Ambulance, Lowell QRU, the Idaho Transportation Department, and Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit for their unwavering dedication in helping in any emergency situation in Idaho County. Their combined agency efforts aided in a swift rescue late at night in a remote area and is another excellent example of our local teamwork.
