(Lewiston, ID) A man was injured in a rollover collision in Lewiston on Sunday after allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed in a stolen vehicle.
At about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Lewiston Police were dispatched to the area of 100 Thain Road regarding a vehicle theft which just occurred. According to police, as the vehicle was leaving the location of the theft, the vehicle owner reportedly had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over by his stolen car.
The owner’s son attempted to follow the vehicle as it left the area. While officers were en route to the scene, multiple 911 callers reported a rollover traffic collision at 400 Thain Road. Officers arrived at the scene of the crash and located the stolen vehicle, which was severely damaged with the driver trapped inside.
The driver was identified by police as 40-year-old Nickalos Yates of Kent, Washington. Yates was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital by the Lewiston Fire Department. He reportedly sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The roadway was closed for nearly two hours during the course of the investigation and removal of the approximately 250-foot-long debris field.
It was estimated Yates was traveling approximately 100 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
Just prior to the rollover collision, Yates allegedly struck a pickup causing minor damage. The occupant of the pickup truck was not injured.  Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Leavitt at the Lewiston Police Department.
