BOISE, ID – The Idaho State Tax Commission announced that many Idaho residents can access free assistance with their income tax returns. This service is available through volunteer tax preparation sites across the state.
The free tax help is intended for senior citizens and individuals with low to moderate incomes who have simple federal and Idaho tax returns. It also applies to those filing solely to claim the Idaho Grocery Credit. All volunteer sites offer electronic filing for faster refunds, with some locations providing assistance in Spanish. Certain sites may require an appointment.
Individuals seeking assistance should bring the following:
- A valid photo ID
- Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for all household members
- W-2s, 1099s, and other income documents
- Last year’s tax return, if available
- Bank account information for direct deposit
- Any other tax-related documents
Several state colleges operate volunteer tax assistance sites, including:
- Boise State University in Boise
- Idaho State University in Pocatello
- Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston
- University of Idaho in Moscow
