Liberty Lake Police Release Officer’s Name in December Road Rage Incident

LIBERTY LAKE, WA  –  Liberty Lake Police have released the name of the officer involved in a December 21, 2024, officer-involved shooting following a hit-and-run and road rage incident near Otis Orchards.

According to the initial press release, officers responded to the area of North Malvern Road and East Wellesley Avenue after reports of a hit-and-run collision. The suspect allegedly struck multiple vehicles intentionally and exited the vehicle, throwing rocks and striking vehicles with random objects. Upon locating the suspect, officers made contact, and an altercation followed. During the encounter, the suspect was shot by an officer, restrained, and transported to the hospital for medical care.

In an updated release on February 20, 2025, Liberty Lake Police named Corporal Darin Powers as the officer involved. Corporal Powers began his law enforcement career in 1997 and joined the Liberty Lake Police Department on January 2, 2024, after serving nearly 17 years with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team (SIIR Team) conducted the investigation, which has now been forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
