SPOKANE, WA – Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man following a lengthy standoff west of Deer Park on February 17th. The incident began around 9:20 a.m. when deputies responded to a report of an argument at a location on W. Antler Road, near N. Spotted Road.

The suspect, identified as 66-year-old Lenard W. Zickefoose, was found to have a federal probation violation warrant for his arrest. Deputies were informed that Zickefoose was in crisis, armed with a large axe, and had recently exhibited aggressive behavior. He was reported to have struck a neighbor’s door twice with the axe during an argument, though the neighbor declined to pursue charges.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals attempted to contact Zickefoose, who was believed to be inside an older motorhome on the property. After repeated announcements for him to surrender were unsuccessful, authorities requested assistance from the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiators, UAS Operators, BHU Units, and K9 Units.

Efforts to convince Zickefoose to surrender continued for several hours. Eventually, a search warrant was obtained, and chemical irritants, less-lethal options, and a K9 unit were used to prompt him to exit the motorhome. Around 3:30 p.m., Zickefoose was taken into custody without further incident. The axe was recovered, and Zickefoose was provided medical attention before being booked into the Spokane County Jail on a U.S. Marshal hold.

The U.S. Marshals Service, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, and multiple specialized units collaborated to resolve the situation.
