Spokane Man Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Child Abuse Convictions

SPOKANE, WA – A Spokane man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of multiple child abuse charges stemming from incidents that occurred more than two decades ago.

59-year-old Eric Andrew Mork  was sentenced on February 25th by District Judge Barbara Duggan after a jury found him guilty of three counts of lewd conduct with a minor under sixteen and one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of sixteen. The convictions relate to offenses committed between 2001 and 2003, involving three children between the ages of 3 and 12 during family vacations at Coeur d’Alene Lake.

According to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Mork used manipulation, bribery, grooming, and the misuse of his position of trust to carry out the abuse. The initial investigation began in 2003 but did not lead to charges due to a lack of evidence. However, after Mork was convicted in Spokane in 2023 for separate child abuse offenses, the 2003 investigation was reopened, resulting in his indictment in November 2023 and conviction following a two-day jury trial that concluded on May 1, 2024.

Judge Duggan sentenced Mork to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the sexual abuse charge and 35 years with parole eligibility after 25 years for each of the lewd conduct convictions. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Molly Nivison had recommended the maximum possible sentences.

Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen commended the victims for their courage in coming forward and cooperating with the investigation, emphasizing the office’s commitment to seeking justice for victims of abuse and protecting the community from sexual predators.
