LAS VEGAS, NV – Isabella Barquet stormed into the top three in the final round of The Trailblazer on Tuesday with a 1-under, 71. The sophomore improved nine spots to tie for third at the competitive tournament at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nev. The No. 25 Warrior Women’s Golf team placed seventh overall.
“This tournament was a huge learning experience for our women,” coach Zach Anderson said. “We came here without a lot of prep due to the weather and they battled. The rust was there but we put our best foot forward. We have lots of work to do to be where we need to and want to be. Now we have time to put that work in.”
Barquet shaved 11 strokes off her first round to finish 9-over for the tournament. The sophomore birdied four holes on the back nine. Her round of 71 was the second-best by any golfer in the tournament.
“Extremely proud of Isa,” Anderson said. “She has been a consistent No. 1 for us all year and her game continues to develop. The second-best round today and of the tournament from any player shows she is one of the best golfers in the west region.
Freshman Giulia Belfontali was 10-over on the day to move into a tie for 29th. She finished tied with teammate Natalia Gomez who played as an individual.
“Although, Natalia competed as an individual, she really played a great event other than about three holes that inflated her score,” Anderson added. “Her struggles from last semester were almost nonexistent this week. We are going to need her and she showed up this week.”
Dallis Shockey and Jane Barry tied for 40th after matching rounds of 85 to each finish 31-over for the tournament.
The Warriors improved by 24 strokes in the second round of action with a round of 323. Paired with Monday’s 347, LC State finished with a score of 670 and tied with Morningside (Iowa).
