CLARKSTON, WA – According to Asotin County Fire District #1, firefighters were dispatched to Clarkston High School at about 12:15 Thursday morning.
Clarkston Fire Department arrived on scene and reported a large amount of smoke coming from the wood shop at the school.
Auto and mutual aid was called from Asotin County Fire District #1, Asotin and Lewiston Fire Departments to help attack the fire. Firefighters were able to control the fire within about a half hour and remained on scene searching for fire extension and hot spots for another 2 hours.
According to Asotin County Fire District #1, there was extensive heat and smoke damage in the wood shop area of the building, where the fire was contained. There were no reported injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clarkston Fire Department.
The Clakrston School District says the extent of the damage is still being assessed. “We are actively working on a plan to determine next steps for students and staff who utilize this space,” says a press release. “School will resume as usual as authorities have assured us that the rest of the school is safe for staff and students. Until further notice, we will not have students in the wood and metal shop sections of the high school.”
