LEWISTON – A man was arrested on February 26 after allegedly stealing from a gas station and assaulting a law enforcement officer, according to an affidavit filed in Nez Perce County District Court.
36-year-old Tyler S. Farrell who was listed as homeless in arrest records, was taken into custody after authorities responded to a reported theft at a Chevron station near 10th Street and Warner Avenue. A detective located Farrell walking westbound on Warner Avenue and followed him until a deputy arrived to make contact.
According to the affidavit, the deputy activated emergency lights and ordered Farrell to stop. As the deputy stepped out of the patrol vehicle, Farrell allegedly threw a large unopened can of beer, striking the deputy’s hands and chest. The deputy attempted to block the object but was unable to avoid being hit.
The deputy ordered Farrell to turn around and face the patrol vehicle, but he did not comply. When officers attempted to physically restrain him, he reportedly tensed up and resisted efforts to turn him around. Farrell was eventually forced to the ground and handcuffed.
During the arrest, Farrell initially provided a false name. Once additional officers arrived, they confirmed his true identity. Farrell was then searched and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. The affidavit states that he became rigid and pushed against officers as they attempted to secure him in the seat.
Farrell was transported to the Nez Perce County Jail and turned over to detention deputies. Booking paperwork was completed, and photos were taken to document his condition at the time of arrest.
Items listed as evidence in the case include the unopened can of beer, law enforcement video footage, written reports, and photographs.
Farrell faces felony charges of battery on an officer and resisting arrest. The case remains under review by the Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office.
