OLYMPIA, WA – Heather Hastings, a Pomeroy Junior/Senior High School freshman, served this week as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Rep. Mary Dye, R-Pomeroy, sponsored her.
Each year, hundreds of students from across Washington participate in the Legislative Page Program and observe the Legislature and other branches of state government in action. Pages serve one week at the state Capitol in Olympia, where they learn about the legislative process while distributing materials throughout the campus, assisting offices, delivering messages, working on the chamber floor, and carrying the flags at the opening of each day’s legislative session. Pages also spend time daily in Page School learning about all aspects of state government.
Heather, the 14-year-old daughter of Mike and Mindy Hastings of Pomeroy, enjoys archery and is involved with the Junior Firefighter program, the Junior Gun Club, and Future Farmers of America.
