No. 7 LC State Falls to No. 24 British Columbia in Weekend Finale

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Warrior Baseball fell just short of a comeback in the eighth inning before No. 24 British Columbia sealed the series split with a 9-5 win over the Warriors on Sunday. No. 7 LC State won the Cascade Conference portion of the series 2-1 but fell in the non-conference contest.

 

LC State falls to 6-7 on the season with a 4-2 record in CCC play.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Robby Butenschoen struck out two in the first inning, but UBC struck for three runs on three hits and three walks in the second. After another run in the third, Zachary Allergro took over on the mound. The Thunderbirds added two more in the fifth for a 6-0 lead.

 

Jakob Marquez stayed hot at the plate with his third hit of the day putting LC State on the board. Dominic Signorelli reached on a two-base error with one out and scored in a base hit to left by Marquez.

 

Jace Taylor struck out the side in order in the bottom of the seventh and Signorelli cut the deficit to 6-2 with a solo shot in the top of the eighth. Jack Sheward walked before Izzy Madariaga singled to put two on, and Garrett Bevacqua made it a one-run game with a three-run shot. The Warrior trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

 

UBC answered with three runs to grow the margin to 9-5, and LC State failed to score in the ninth.

 

STAT RECAP

Marquez went 4-for-5 at the plate and Bevacqua drove in three with his three-run homer.

 

Butenschoen tossed 2.1 innings followed by appearances from Allegro, Zachary Ediger, Taylor and Kolby Solomon. Ediger has the most successful outing with just one hit and one walk allowed in 2.2 innings.
