BOISE, ID – The Idaho State Tax Commission is extending tax filing and payment deadlines for individuals and businesses affected by the recent wildfires and straight-line winds in California.
Taxpayers in Los Angeles County will now have until October 15, 2025, to submit returns and make payments originally due between January 7, 2025, and October 14, 2025. Idaho’s decision aligns with the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) extended deadlines following the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) disaster declaration.
The relief applies to all Idaho tax types, including income tax, sales tax, fuels tax, and income tax withholding. Those who qualify include both individuals and businesses in the designated disaster area, as well as those whose tax records are located there.
To take advantage of the extension, affected taxpayers should write “CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES, STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS” at the top of their tax return. Electronic filers can submit a request by emailing taxrep@tax.idaho.gov with the same subject line, their full name, the last four digits of their Social Security number, and the date they e-filed.
The Tax Commission has advised affected individuals to call (800) 972-7660 if they:
- Are charged penalties or interest for late filings or payments.
- Are in a payment plan or working with the commission on tax debt.
- Have additional questions about the relief.
