COLFAX, WA – Chad Whetzel has been appointed to fill the empty seat on the Whitman County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners Tom Handy and Art Swannack appointed Whetzel to the seat Monday morning.  He fills the post that was vacated by Republican Commissioner Michael Largent when he resigned in January.  The county GOP nominated three candidates for the elected position.  Whetzel was picked over Cody Finch of Pullman and Ron Morgan of Colfax.

Whetzel lives outside Pullman and runs a horseshoeing business, serves as a captain with Whitman County Fire District 12 and has been a longtime member of the county planning and zoning commission.

Whetzel will be sworn in next week on Monday.  He will be up for election this fall.
