Dworshak Announces Temporary Closure of Bruce’s Eddy Boat Ramp

The boat ramp at Bruce’s Eddy will be temporarily closed from Mar. 10 to Mar. 15 while it is used for the delivery and assembly of a new fuel dock. The closure may be extended if unforeseen circumstances, such as inclement weather, delay the assembly. The boat ramp at Big Eddy Day Use Area will be the only boat ramp that is available on Dworshak Reservoir during this period. The boat ramp at Dent Acres boat ramp will open Mar. 17.

Once assembled the fuel dock will be relocated for use with USACE equipment.

While visiting this public recreation area, make the experience a safe and enjoyable one for everybody by following proper etiquette and safety rules, because safety is everyone’s responsibility:

  • Prepare your vessel for launching in the parking lot, not on the ramp.  Lighten congestion and frustrations by readying your vessel for launching before you back down the ramp (e.g. Taking the cover off, loading items in the boat, taking off road safety straps and motor stabilizers).
  • Wear a personal flotation device while in a vessel.  The highest percentage of boat-related drowning fatalities are a result of accidentally falling into the water.  A floatation device gives you the time you need and the best chance of getting back in the boat and making it home to your family.
  • While there are now two emergency call boxes on Dworshak Reservoir at Swamp Creek and Grandad, it is a good idea to invest in another layer of safety by purchasing a satellite phone or a marine band radio for your vessel, communication can be the key to life or death when the unexpected happens.
  • Spring is a great time to check your safety gear; state law requires a current registration, a properly fitting lifejacket for each person onboard, a sound producing device, navigation lights if operating at night, a fire extinguisher and a throwable device.

For more information or questions, visit or call Dworshak Dam Visitor Center at (208) 476-1255.  Winter hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  More information on recreation is also available on the Walla Walla District website at www.nww.usace.army.mil.
