SPOKANE, WA – Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on March 9 in the 4900 block of N. Argonne Road. A truck struck a tree and caught fire north of the intersection of N. Argonne Road and E. Wellesley Avenue.

Deputies arrived alongside Spokane County Fire District 9 and Spokane Valley Firefighters. Fire crews provided medical treatment to the driver and worked to extinguish the fire, which had spread to a nearby tree and utility pole.

According to investigators, the 40-year-old male driver was traveling north on Argonne Road when his truck left the roadway and crashed. A passing motorist stopped and pulled the injured driver from the burning vehicle before emergency responders arrived.

A Traffic Unit Deputy obtained a search warrant for a blood sample from the driver, who is suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash. The sample will be sent for laboratory testing.

The driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for further care. Due to his medical condition, he was not charged with DUI at the time, but charges are expected to be filed later.
