BOISE, ID – The Idaho State Tax Commission is reminding residents that they may be eligible for a grocery credit refund, even if they do not earn enough income to file a state tax return.
The 2024 refund provides $120 for most Idaho residents, with an additional $120 available for each qualifying dependent. Residents aged 65 and older can receive $140.
All full-year Idaho residents qualify for the refund. Dependents eligible for the credit include those born or adopted by the end of 2024 and resident dependents who passed away during the year. The refund amount is adjusted for individuals who received federal food assistance, were incarcerated, or were in the country illegally.
Residents who are not required to file a tax return can claim the grocery credit refund by submitting the following forms:
- Form 24 for those 65 or older.
- Form 40 for individuals under 65.
Instructions for these forms are available on the Idaho State Tax Commission’s website.
For residents who are required to file a state income tax return, the grocery credit can be claimed on their tax return. Part-time residents may also qualify for a prorated refund based on the number of months spent in Idaho.
According to the Idaho State Tax Commission, more than 99,000 residents who were not required to file a tax return received a grocery credit refund last year.
