BANDON, OR – The LC State Men’s Golf team is coming home with a new piece of hardware. The Warriors defeated Cascade Conference opponent Southern Oregon after a tiebreaker in the championship round of the Bandon Crossings Collegiate match play tournament on Tuesday.

Throughout the tournament, LC State defeated NCAA Division II Jessup and NAIA programs Simpson (Calif.) and SOU.

“Great way to start the spring season,” coach Zach Anderson said. “We played three solid teams in all the matches; in my opinion we had the toughest road to the championship, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The men battled from start to finish and had to lock in even more today. The match was close, and the playoff was as well. Falling behind early didn’t phase the crew at all and they kept to the game plan. I could not be prouder of this group. They learned a lot this week about themselves. They showed confidence that I haven’t seen before. I got to see some of the best out of them which is always the goal. Shout out to Coach (Kurt) Simmons as well, we really had to game plan our pairings and strategy for this event and his input was huge. The development of this group is just getting started. Excited to get back at it this weekend with the men and women.”

The Warrior men fell behind 2-0 after the first two matches. Alex Navarro and Sondre Andresen were the third pair out for LC State and earned the first Warrior point with a 1-up win.

Lucas Ortega and Oscar Behle were clutch once again with a dominant 4 and 3 win to send the contest into a tie break.

LC State and SOU each took four golfers into the tie break. The team of West, Moon, Navarro and Behle were 1-over on the hole with three pars and a bogey, while SOU finished with two pars and two bogies to give the Warriors a one-stroke win.
