COLFAX, WA – The iconic Steptoe Butte State Park North of Colfax might be closed for most of this year.

The park is currently closed due to washouts from last month’s flood.  The Washington State Parks Department is going to repave the road up to the top of the butte this year.  The park will be closed for about four months for paving.  The work was initially scheduled for last year but was delayed to this summer.  State parks officials are trying to determine if they will reopen Steptoe Butte before the paving and work closure begins.  Officials previously announced that the bathrooms at the summit of the butte would be removed as part of the paving improvements.

The paving and closure for that work is set to start in May or early June.  Officials plan to have the paving complete and reopen Steptoe Butte in October.

Officials hope to know in a couple of weeks if they will briefly reopen Steptoe Butte before the lengthy paving closure.
