Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on US95 in North Idaho

SAMUELS, ID – A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 95 resulted in the death of a driver Friday morning, according to the Idaho State Police.

The crash occurred just before 9:59 a.m. near milepost 487, north of Samuels. Authorities report that a 48-year-old man from Athol was driving a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado northbound when he crossed the centerline. The pickup collided head-on with a southbound 2024 Freightliner semi-truck driven by a 31-year-old man from Calgary, Canada.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not reported to have injuries.

The highway was blocked for approximately three and a half hours while emergency crews responded. The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, Northside Fire Department, and Idaho Transportation Department assisted at the scene.

The Idaho State Police continue to investigate the crash. Next of kin has been notified.
