Clarkston Man Charged With Robbery and Assault After Fight Involving a Shovel Near Local Gas Station

CLARKSTON WA – A Clarkston man was arrested on March 18 after an altercation involving a metal pole and vehicle keys near the Nom Nom gas station on Bridge Street.

According to court documents, law enforcement responded to a report of two individuals fighting near the gas station, one of whom was armed with a shovel. One of the men reportedly fled on foot down Burns Street before officers arrived.

Upon arrival, an officer located 53-year-old Aaron Heath Treharne lying on the ground with a large metal pole nearby. The officer also observed another individual near the gas station, whom Treharne accused of attacking him.

Treharne told officers that he had seen the other individual’s truck parked at the gas station. Believing the person had outstanding felony warrants due to a prior incident involving a trailer, Treharne took the truck keys. He stated that after retrieving the keys, the other individual saw him and attacked him with a shovel. Treharne then threw the keys into another vehicle before officers arrived.

However, a witness at the scene reported a different version of events, stating that Treharne ran at the other individual’s vehicle with a large metal pole and initiated an attack. The other individual then retrieved a shovel and attempted to defend themselves. The witness also stated that the altercation escalated, and both individuals ran up the street.

Medical personnel were called to examine Treharne for a small cut on his ear. Law enforcement also noted a baseball-sized welt on the other individual’s arm, reportedly from being struck with the metal pole.

Treharne was advised of his rights and declined to answer further questions. While being transported to the Asotin County Jail, he stated that he confronted the other individual because of the previous trailer incident and believed they had outstanding felony warrants.

Treharne was booked on charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and second-degree vehicle prowl. Law enforcement determined probable cause for all three charges, citing that Treharne was armed with a deadly weapon and inflicted bodily harm while taking the truck keys.

The case remains under review, and additional evidence, including potential video footage, is expected to be available for further investigation.
