Five Mexican Nationals Detained for Immigration Violations in Northern Idaho

ATHOL, ID – Five individuals were detained for federal immigration violations following an incident at Super 1 Foods in Athol on Wednesday evening, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were patrolling the area around 8:30 p.m. when they identified a suspicious occupied vehicle in the parking lot. A records check on the vehicle’s license plate revealed that the registered owner had a federal arrest warrant for previous deportation.

As deputies approached, multiple individuals exited the vehicle and entered the store. When deputies attempted to check the vehicle, the same individuals ran back inside. A deputy pursued them and detained them inside the store.

U.S. Border Patrol officials were contacted and later took custody of five Mexican nationals. They were transported to the Kootenai County Jail on federal immigration charges.

The sheriff’s office stated the investigation is ongoing.
