GREELEY, CO – A suspect wanted in connection to a 2024 homicide in Spokane has been arrested in Colorado and is awaiting extradition.
On March 18, 2025, law enforcement officers in Greeley, Colorado, took 19-year-old Cougar L. Devereaux Jr. into custody on an outstanding murder warrant issued by the Spokane Police Department. The warrant was related to a July 7, 2024, shooting in the 1300 block of West Courtland Avenue.
Spokane police officers responded to the scene of the shooting to find a teenage female suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit led the investigation, with support from the Special Investigations Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit, and Technical Assistance Response Unit. Investigators identified Devereaux as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Authorities later determined that Devereaux had fled Washington. Detectives recently received information indicating he was in Greeley. Spokane police worked with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Greeley police, to locate and arrest him.
Devereaux remains in custody in Colorado, awaiting an extradition hearing before he is transferred back to Washington to face charges.
