WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump has signed an executive order shifting education oversight from the federal government to individual states and local communities. The U.S. Department of Education issued a statement on the decision, with Secretary of Education Linda McMahon outlining the administration’s goals.

McMahon stated that the executive order is intended to reduce federal involvement in education policy, allowing states to take the lead in decision-making. She described education as a state responsibility and said the administration aims to simplify regulations that impact schools and educators.

According to the statement, the administration plans to maintain funding for K-12 students, students with special needs, and college borrowers. McMahon noted that the transition will be carried out through collaboration with Congress to ensure compliance with existing laws.

The executive order also includes efforts to reduce administrative requirements for teachers. The Department of Education stated that this move is intended to give educators more flexibility in focusing on classroom instruction.

The Department’s statement added that the order seeks to reduce federal spending on certain programs while continuing to support students. The administration has not yet released specific details on how these changes will be implemented.
