NEW ORLEANS, LA – The men of LC State Tennis earned their second top-25 upset victory of the season in the form of their fifth straight win on Thursday. The Warriors opened the Xavier/Dillard Invitational with a 5-2 victory over No. 23 Loyola (La.) behind five singles wins.
The Wolf Pack swept doubles action to take on early 1-0 lead over LC State.
The No. 2, 4 and 6 singles matches were played first on the three-court setup and LC State evened things up 2-2 with victories by Austin Swing and Cesar Coloma. Swing took down his No. 4 singles opponent in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) while Coloma battled to a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win in the sixth spot.
Rafael Bonnet de Larbogne earned the next win for LC State with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win in the No. 5 slot for a 3-2 advantage. Nell Rollin clinched the victory with a three-set win in No. 3 singles. The sophomore won his first set 6-4 before dropping a close second 7-5. He took the contest by a final of 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Freshman Pablo Herrera won the fifth point for LC State in comeback fashion. After he dropped the first set 6-3, he rallied to take the second 7-5. With the clinch completed by LC State, he took a shortened third set 10-5 for scores of 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.
