Lewiston Police Investigate Shots Fired Incident and Fatal Crash

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Police Department is investigating an early morning incident involving reports of gunfire followed by a fatal vehicle crash.

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 4:27 AM, officers responded to the 900 block of Preston Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired and a possible altercation. Upon arrival, police found no evidence of gunfire or fighting, and no victims were located at the scene.

Shortly after, at 4:40 AM, officers were dispatched to a serious vehicle crash at the intersection of 10th Street and Warner Avenue. The Lewiston Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) responded to the scene, where a 2014 Chevy Malibu had veered off the road, jumped the sidewalk, and crashed into a tree on the south side of Warner Avenue. The vehicle sustained severe front-end damage.

According to police, emergency personnel found three occupants inside the Malibu, all suffering from serious injuries. They were transported to the hospital, where one individual later succumbed to their injuries.

Police say they are investigating whether the crash is connected to the earlier shots fired call on Preston Avenue.

The names and conditions of those involved are being withheld pending family notifications. The area from 10th and Warner to 12th and Warner was closed for several hours and reopened around 11:00 AM.

As the investigation continues, the Lewiston Police Department is seeking assistance from the public. Residents and businesses in the area with security cameras that may have captured footage between 4:00 AM and 4:45 AM—specifically along 10th and Preston, 10th Street from Preston to Warner Avenue, and up to the 12th and Warner roundabout—are urged to contact Detective Brian Erickson at (208) 746-0171.
