NEW ORLEANS, LA – Warrior Men’s Tennis pushed No. 13 Dillard (La.) to the brink on Saturday and nearly pulled off its third top-25 upset of the season. The match was tied 3-3 late into the third set of the final singles match, but Dillard edged LC State 4-3.
Dillard swept doubles action to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. The Warrior deficit grew to 2-0 with a loss at the top singles spot.
Nell Rollin earned a quick 6-0, 6-1 win in the third singles spot and Rafael Bonnet de Larbogne won 6-3, 6-4 in No. 5 single to tie the match 2-2. After Dillard won fourth singles, Giacomo Moreira earned a 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to tie things up again 3-3.
The match came down to No. 6 singles where freshman Cesar Coloma battled through three sets. He won the first frame 6-1 but dropped the second 6-2. The third set was tied throughout and was 5-5 late in the contest, but his opponent from Dillard outlasted the first-year player to take the matchup 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
