PULLMAN, WA – The man who killed his estranged wife 25-year-old Jamie Wilson of Pullman last year has been sent to prison for nearly 30 years.

Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey sentenced 37-year-old Jacob Spray to the maximum sentence of 320 months for 1st-degree murder on Monday morning. Spray was found guilty by a jury in January for raping and killing Jamie last March inside the trailer she was living in on Pullman’s Military Hill. Jamie was strangled to death by Spray.
Judge Libey heard from about a dozen of Jamie’s family members and friends during the hour-and-a-half-long hearing including from her father Troy. You can hear a portion of his statement at the link below.
Judge Libey handed down the maximum sentencing saying if he could have locked up Spray for longer he would have. You can listen to a part of Judge Libey’s sentence at the link below.
The maximum sentenced in Spray’s case is limited by Washington state law since this 1st degree murder conviction does not include aggravating circumstances.
Spray did speak during sentencing and stated that he made a mistake but Judge Libey noted that he didn’t show remorse for killing Jamie.
Monday’s sentencing was the final proceeding for Judge Libey who has retired and ended his career on the bench presiding over the murder trial.
