PULLMAN, WA – Washington State University has initiated spending cuts to begin dealing with the institution’s financial struggles.
The administration announced today that starting next month there will be a pause on non-essential hires, out of cycle salary increases and a freeze on non-essential travel and training. WSU will conduct more robust reviews of essential purchases and contracts, renegotiate or end non-essential contracts and reduce discretionary spending.
The moves comes as WSU is dealing with funding shifts from the federal government and expected large budget cuts from the State of Washington. All WSU units are preparing for budget cuts of up to 10% for the next fiscal year.
