Mariners Beat A’s on Opening Day

Seattle Mariners

SEATTLE, WA – The Seattle Mariners opened their 2025 season with a late-game rally to defeat the Oakland Athletics 4-2 at T-Mobile Park on Thursday.

The Mariners, held to just three hits through seven innings, saw their offense come alive in the eighth. Randy Arozarena tied the game with a 424-foot solo home run off reliever José Leclerc. Moments later, Jorge Polanco followed with a two-run blast after a Luke Raley walk, flipping the game in Seattle’s favor.

Seattle starter Logan Gilbert pitched seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. The Mariners’ early offensive struggles, including a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by Polanco and a missed scoring opportunity due to a reversed call at home plate, were ultimately overcome by their late-inning power surge.
