MOSCOW, ID – A fugitive wanted in Kentucky on multiple felony charges, including manslaughter and fentanyl trafficking, was apprehended Thursday evening in Moscow, Idaho, following coordinated efforts between local law enforcement and out-of-state authorities.
According to a press release from the Moscow Police Department (MPD), officers arrested 43-year-old Aaron S. Hypes at approximately 6:30 p.m. on March 27. Hypes was located on the 1100 block of North Polk Street Extension and taken into custody without incident.
Hypes was wanted out of Butler County, Kentucky, on charges of manslaughter, trafficking fentanyl, and being a persistent felony offender. MPD reported that Kentucky law enforcement contacted them earlier that day, indicating they believed Hypes was in the Moscow or Latah County area.
Due to the seriousness of the charges and potential risk, the Latah County Regional SWAT Team—comprised of officers from the MPD and the Latah County Sheriff’s Office—was deployed to assist with the arrest. The Idaho State Police also provided support.
Hypes was transported to the Latah County Jail, where he remains in custody pending extradition proceedings.
The MPD credited successful multi-state and interagency coordination for the safe apprehension of Hypes.
