STEPTOE, WA – Steptoe Butte State Park North of Colfax will be closed for most of this year. The park has been closed since late February when flooding caused several washouts. The Washington State Parks Department is repaving the road to the summit starting in late May or early June.
The previously scheduled paving will close the park for four months. Officials have decided to keep the butte closed prior to paving for safety reasons. The paving is scheduled to be complete and the park should reopen in October.
The work was initially scheduled to take place last year but was delayed to this summer. State parks officials previously announced that the bathrooms at the summit of the popular butte would be removed as part of the paving work.
