LEWISTON, ID — A Lewiston man has been charged with multiple felonies following an incident that led to his arrest on March 31.
According to court documents filed in Nez Perce County, 49-year-old Gregory S. Chavez is facing two counts of felony aggravated battery and one count of felony burglary. Additional charges include aggravated assault and violation of a civil protection order.
The charges stem from a reported disturbance at a residence on Linden Avenue. Responding officers with the Lewiston Police Department were told Chavez had attempted to stab individuals inside the home. When officers arrived, they searched the area and eventually located Chavez hiding under a camper trailer near the scene.
Upon investigation, police noted damage to the front door of the residence consistent with forced entry. Witness accounts detailed that Chavez had been asked to leave the property but returned, forced his way inside, and brandished a pocket knife.
One person sustained multiple small puncture wounds during the altercation, according to officers, while another individual reported a minor hand injury that occurred while trying to disarm Chavez.
Chavez was taken into custody without further incident. The Nez Perce County Prosecutor’s Office has filed for an initial determination of probable cause. As of April 1, Chavez remained in custody on the listed charges.
