MARION, IN – LC State Women’s Tennis wrapped up a successful day two of the Doc Richards Tournament with a split in Indiana. The Warrior women opened the day with a 4-2 upset victory over No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan before falling 5-2 to No. 18 Northwestern Ohio.
MATCH ONE: LC State def. No. 24 IWU 4-2
Indiana Wesleyan had the momentum after a sweep of the doubles matches. LC State started singles play with a 1-0 deficit but won four singles matches to clinch the contest.
IWU took the top two matches, but the Warriors shined in No. 3-6. April Buckingham clinched the win with her 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory in No. 5 singles. Paige Noble-Lucas won her No. 4 match in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
Rayana Shah picked up the first win for LC State at No. 3 singles where she defeated her opponent 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. Gym Heim won in three sets in the sixth spot with scores of 5-7, 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
The victory was the first against a top-25 team this season for the Warrior women.
MATCH TWO: No. 18 UNOH def. LC State 5-2
UNOH swept doubles play to put the Warriors down 1-0 heading into singles action.
LC State picked up a pair of wins in singles play with seniors Beatriz Lambru and Buckingham earning wins.
Lambru took the top singles match by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Buckingham also won her No. 4 match in three sets with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
