SPOKANE, WA — A 34-year-old man was found dead in Newman Lake after being reported missing on April 6.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the man was last seen on a dock in the 12500 block of North Newman Lake Road during the evening of April 5. Deputies, along with the Newman Lake Fire Department and the Spokane County Emergency Operations Team (EOT), responded to the area and searched the lake by boat but were unable to locate the individual that night.
The search resumed the following morning, April 7, and the deceased male was located around 11:00 a.m. in approximately 7 feet of water near the dock. The water temperature at the time was around 52 degrees Fahrenheit, a level considered extremely cold and capable of causing hypothermia.
Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, foul play is not suspected.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of death, when appropriate.
