ASHLAND, OR – Senior Alex Navarro earned his second straight individual tournament win on Tuesday after impressive play at the SOU Spring Classic. LC State tied for first as a team but fell short of the team title to No. 6 British Columbia in a one-hole playoff. The tournament marked the end of the regular season.
The Warrior men carded a round of 290 in the final 18 holes to sit in a tie UBC after regulation. The two teams went to a playoff on the 18th hole where UBC went 2-under, and LC State went 2-over. The tournament counts as a tie for first towards ratings.
“Although, we didn’t win the playoff I am very proud of the guys,” coach Zach Anderson said. “Tying the No. 6 team in the nation shows that we deserve to be in the conversation for nationals. This spring season we have shown that we are out here to win. They showed fight in the adversity and that mindset is something that we have continually worked on over the past few months. We are getting in form just in time for postseason. Big win for Alex. He continues to put up good showings; two in a row for him and a total of 19-under in his last six tournament rounds.”
Navarro shot a 2-over, 74 in his final round to win medalist honors by two strokes over UBC’s Dylan MacDonald. He finished his tournament with rounds of 69-66-74 for a 7-under, 209 and now ranks fifth in the CCC in scoring average at 72.8. His round of 66 was the lowest of the tournament.
Sondre Andresen battled his was to a sixth-place finish with his best round of the tournament. He finished 1-under, 215, after a 69 on Tuesday with four birdies.
Sophomore Luke West struggled in his final round but did enough in his first two to finish in a tie for 11th. He carded rounds of 69-70 on Monday before his 80 on Tuesday to finish 3-over, 219. West tied with teammate Oscar Behle for 11th after Behle’s 74 on Tuesday. The senior carded rounds of 75-70-74 to finish with a matching 219.
Lucas Ortega rounded out the top five for the Warriors at the tournament with a strong round of 73 to tie for 28th overall. He finished 9-over with a 74-78-73, 225. Jaxon Moon played as an individual and tied for 31st. He was 11-over with a 76-72-79, 227.
