Over 2,000 People Were Reported Missing in Idaho in 2024, Report Shows

MERIDIAN, ID – Over 2,000 people were reported missing in Idaho last year.  Most cases are quickly solved and 2,030 Idaho missing person records were able to be purged from a national database in 2024.

The Idaho State Police have released the 2024 Idaho Missing Persons Clearinghouse Annual Report. This report offers a comprehensive overview of the individuals reported missing in Idaho and entered into the National Crime Information Center in 2024.

The report aims to identify general characteristics and trends related to missing persons in Idaho. While it does not include case-specific investigative details or techniques, it provides a data-driven snapshot.

2024 Key Statistics:

  • NCIC Records Entered: 2,022
  • Records Purged from NCIC: 2,030
  • Modify/Supplemental Records: 2,714
  • Active Missing Person Records (as of 12/31/2024): 185
  • Total NCIC Transactions for 2024: 6,951

“These numbers represent more than just statistics — they are loved ones, families, and communities searching for answers,” said Kara Kelley, Program Manager of the Idaho Missing Persons Clearinghouse. “Our goal with this report is to provide transparency, raise awareness, and support the dedicated work of local law enforcement agencies across the state investigating these cases.”

All missing persons investigations are handled by the local police or sheriff’s office in the jurisdiction where the person was reported missing. The media and public should contact the appropriate local law enforcement agency for questions or updates regarding individual cases.
