SPOKANE, WA – Avista has filed a request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to increase electric rates starting July 1, 2025. If approved, the change would raise electric prices by $15.3 million, or about 2.1 percent.
The proposed adjustment is related to Avista’s Energy Recovery Mechanism, which tracks differences between actual and authorized power supply costs. A dry year in 2024 with low precipitation and snowpack led to reduced hydroelectric generation and higher power costs. This contributed to a deferred cost balance of $34.3 million.
Currently, customers are paying $19 million in ERM-related costs, which will end July 1. The new request would recover the remaining balance over the following year.
For residential customers using 945 kilowatt hours per month, the average bill would rise from $120.86 to $123.41, an increase of $2.55.
