BOISE, ID — The Idaho Public Charter School Commission has appointed Korey Mereness as its new executive director. The decision was made unanimously during the Commission’s meeting on April 10.
Mereness brings experience in both secondary and postsecondary education. Prior to this appointment, he served at the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (CTE), where he held several positions over more than four years, ultimately serving as Chief Educator Officer. In that role, he oversaw credentialing and professional development for CTE educators statewide. His earlier experience includes serving as director of adult education at Idaho State University.
In a statement released by the Commission, Chairman Alan Reed said Mereness’ background in education and familiarity with Idaho’s school system were key factors in the appointment.
Mereness expressed enthusiasm for the role, saying he aims to support charter schools across Idaho and work collaboratively with educators, lawmakers, and communities. “Charter schools are an essential choice in the Idaho education landscape, and we must do all we can to support them,” he stated.
A third-generation Idahoan from Nampa, Mereness holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Boise State University and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Idaho. He is certified as both a teacher and a school principal in the state.
