China to Increase Tariffs on U.S. Goods to 125%

WASHINGTON, D.C. – China announced early Friday that Beijing has sharply increased tariffs on U.S. imports, imposing a 125% tariff in what is now its strongest response yet in the growing trade standoff with the United States.

The move comes after President Donald Trump’s administration raised its tariffs on Chinese products to a combined rate of 145%.

China’s Ministry of Finance criticized the U.S. strategy, accusing Washington of using unfair trade practices and breaching international trade standards. Officials in Beijing warned that continued U.S. actions could damage America’s credibility on the global stage. However, despite the tough rhetoric, Chinese authorities suggested they have no immediate plans to raise tariffs further, signaling a potential pause in escalation.

Experts have warned that the latest round of tariffs could push up costs across multiple industries, including electronics, apparel, and automobiles — likely resulting in higher prices for consumers.

Global markets and policymakers remain on edge, bracing for further uncertainty as the trade conflict unfolds.
