Parsells Climbs NAIA 800m Ranks, Warrior Men See Season Bests Across the Board

SPOKANE, WA – The LC State Men’s Track and Field team had two athletes hit provisional standards and saw nine personal bests to highlight the Jeff Rahn Classic, hosted by Whitworth on Friday. Griffen Parsells ran one of the best 800m races in the NAIA this season for his national mark, and Perry Severijnse repeated his standard in the javelin.

“Another good day for Warrior Track and Field,” coach Mike Collins said. “We didn’t have any new national qualifiers, but we definitely had a lot of season bests and personal bests. Making progress is a huge thing when it comes to week-by-week analysis of what we are trying to do. I’m really encouraged right now with where we are at as a lot of the athletes moved up in the NAIA national rankings.”

Parsells ran his best 800m and the second-best in the NAIA this season with a B-standard time of 1:50.71. The time ranks third in the Warrior record book and earned him a second-place finish at the meet. Tristin O’Brien also ran a personal best (2:00.89) to finish 16th, Kobe Wessels was 21st (2:03.04) and Manuel Valdez was 26th (2:18.48).

Severijnse hit the B standard in the javelin once again with a mark of 58.37m to win the event. Caleb Sprenger placed seventh (48.83m).

The men’s 4x100m relay squad ran the third-fastest time in school history to place third in the field. The team of Preston Cooper, Trenton Johnson, Jordan Castillo and James Bogdanowicz clocked a time of 42.40. Johnson went on to place second in the triple jump (14.35m).

Bogdanowicz ran a personal best time in the 100m (11.45) where he led LC State in 15th place. Tanner Sibert was 17th with a PR of 11.76 and Brandon Decker was 20th (12.38). Bogdanowicz led the Warriors in the pole vault in fifth place (4.30m) and Decker was eighth (3.85m).

Connor Alexander shaved 25 seconds off his best time in the 5,000m to place 10th in the event with a time of 15:24.91.

Wessels was 23rd in 1,500m (3:59.68) and Jace Joslyn ran a personal-best time of 4:49.11 to place 46th. Valdez was the first Warrior on the track for the men and finished fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase (10:49.37).
