CLARKSTON, WA – A 45-year-old Clarkston woman was arrested earlier this week after police responded to a report of a break-in and discovered red paint smeared on multiple RVs and a set of missing wind chimes.

Amanda Jean Wormell was taken into custody on April 15 for alleged vehicle prowling in the first degree and third-degree malicious mischief. Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Port Way after receiving a 911 text alert indicating Wormell had entered a camper without permission.

Upon arrival, officers found Wormell with wet red paint on her arms, face, hands, and clothing.  Some of the paint was still wet. She told officers she had come to retrieve her father’s ashes, which she believed were stored inside the RV.

The RV’s owner reported that a set of wind chimes had been taken and that paint had been smeared on the sides of two campers. He stated the camper was locked, though the door may not have latched completely. Officers later found the wind chimes nearby, covered in the same red paint observed on Wormell.

The RV’s owner confirmed that Wormell did not have permission to enter or remove any property. While she was initially arrested for malicious mischief, the vehicle prowling charge was added following further investigation.

Wormell was transported to the Asotin County Jail and booked on the charges.  She appeared in court on Wednesday.  Bond was set at $15,000.
