KLAMATH FALLS, OR – A pair of LC State Men’s Track and Field athletes sit in the top eight after the first half of the Cascade Conference decathlon on Thursday. Trenton Johnson is in third after a stellar debut in the multi, while Cameron Carrara is in seventh in just his second decathlon.

“It was a great first day for the multi guys,” coach Mike Collins said. “First ever multi for TJ (Johnson) and what an outstanding day he had. Tomorrow will be much more challenging for him, but we are going to be very optimistic. Cameron had a great day as well as a freshman in his second decathlon ever. Hoping to get points from both of these guys. Coach Bonner has done a great job getting them prepared.”

Johnson earned 3,249 points in the first five events of the 10-event multi to sit in third place. The junior, who is competing in his first multi, earned his highest point total in the 400m where he placed second with a time of 49.94. He jumped a personal-best mark of 6.69m in the long jump to finish first. The mark is the fifth-best in Warrior history.

Johnson was fourth in the high jump (1.76m), sixth in the 100m (11.87) and ninth in the shot put (8.92m). It was his first collegiate attempt at all three events.

Carrara was sixth in the shot put (9.55m), eighth in the long jump with a PR of 5.90m and 10th in the 100m (12.12).
