SPOKANE, WA — A man wanted in connection to a homicide in Mexico was arrested in Spokane on Friday morning, April 18, 2025.
According to federal authorities, Jesus Salas-Rubio was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. near the 1000 block of East Mission Avenue by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force (PNVOTF). The arrest was made without incident and involved coordination with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Spokane Police Department, and the Washington State Department of Corrections.
Salas-Rubio was wanted on a federal arrest warrant issued April 16 through the efforts of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington.
Following his arrest, Salas-Rubio was booked into the Spokane County Jail. Mexican authorities have been notified of his detention.
Officials said Salas-Rubio has a documented history of violence, including previous offenses related to shootings, assaults, and illegal firearm possession.
U.S. Marshal Craig Thayer stated that the arrest reflects the collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement in apprehending high-risk fugitives. “The U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force prioritizes working with the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs and our global law enforcement partners to pursue justice for victims, no matter where the crime occurred,” Thayer said.
The PNVOTF includes law enforcement personnel from across Washington, Oregon, and Alaska and focuses on apprehending violent and high-profile fugitives.
