HAYFORD, WA – Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in the West Plains area.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of W. Geiger Boulevard and S. Hayford Road at approximately 2:10 p.m. on April 21, 2025. According to the initial report, a male suspect shot another male before fleeing the scene on foot with two or three other individuals.

When deputies arrived, they located the victim lying near the roadway and determined he had no pulse. CPR was initiated, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies established a perimeter and secured the area. One adult male was seen running through a nearby field and was detained for questioning. He has not been arrested.

As of Monday afternoon, the scene remains active and Hayford Road north of Geiger Boulevard is closed to traffic. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
