Kamiah Fire Crews Knock Down House Fire

KAMIAH, ID – Fire crews responded to a structure fire on front street on Saturday.

According to Kamiah Fire and EMS, at about 7:43 a.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a two story home that reportedly had an active chimney fire. Upon arrival, crews found the attic of the home to be fully involved with fire.

An aggressive interior fire attack from the second story was made, it required holes to be cut in the ceiling that gave access to enter the attic with hose lines to extinguish the blaze.  Kooskia Fire crews were called in to assist with manpower and water.

“These are one of our most challenging fires because the seat of the fire has to quickly be identified and accessed. There was water damage to the second story and the contents, however the home was saved and will require major reconstruction. The Idaho State Fire Marshal was notified and determined the unofficial cause to be centered around the area of the chimney,” said KFR Chief Billy Monahan in a social media post.

Kamiah Fire 4-19-25

There were no reported injuries.  The Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the occupants of the more than 10,000 square foot home.

“I am very proud of the men and women that fought this fire and it shows that the ongoing efforts of our training help save this home. Just to add, they were out of the station within one minute, which is another benefit to your fire department being staffed at the station 24/7,” said Monahan.
