COLTON, WA – Steptoe Canyon Road in Southern Whitman County will reopen Wednesday after being closed since February’s flood.
The late February high water damaged two bridges in the canyon which runs from Colton down to the Snake River. Whitman County road crews have repaired the bridges which were just rebuilt in the past couple of years.
The Whitman County road system sustained extensive damage from washouts and landslides during the February flood. Officials estimate the cost for the repairs so far at around 800,000 dollars. Crews are still fixing flood damage on Whitman County’s rural roads.
