Asotin Couple Escapes Wednesday Night House Fire

ASOTIN, WA – Two Asotin residents escaped their home on fire Wednesday night at about 11:30 p.m.

According to Asotin County Fire District #1, the residents were awakened by a noise and could see smoke and flames in a hallway of their manufactured home on Costly Lane near the city limits of Asotin.

City of Asotin Fire Department and Asotin County Fire District #1 firefighters quickly attacked the blaze and had it under control within about 10 minutes. Firefighters were able to locate 3 cats and 2 dogs in the home that was fully charged with smoke.

Asotin County Fire District medical crews administered oxygen to all of the pets and the homeowners were taking all of the pets to a vet to have them evaluated.

There were no reported injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined as of Wednesday night, but Chief Noel Hardin stated the fire started on the back porch of the home, traveled up the exterior wall into the roof/attic and through the walls of the home near the exterior door. He stated the fire had been burning a while on the exterior of the home before it was noticed.

Firefighters were on scene until 2:00 a.m. checking for hot spots. The home received extensive fire and smoke damage.

The residents were able to stay with family members.
