JOSEPH, OR – The Nez Perce Tribe’s ‘ITAM’YANÁAWIT Small Business Program will present the BLOODLINES: Nez Perce Art Exhibit on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture in Joseph, Oregon. The exhibition will remain on display through June 6, 2025.
The exhibit will feature works by Nez Perce artists Phillip Cash Cash, Emma Chief, Nakia Cloud, Doug Hyde (Special Guest), Brian McCormack, Jacy Sohappy, Ellen Taylor, Nizhonia Toledo, John Seven Wilson, and Michael Wilson. The official exhibit flyer includes ledger art by Nakia Cloud, based on a historical document from June 20, 1884, from the Territory of Idaho, County of Nez Perce.
The ‘ITAM’YANÁAWIT Small Business Program supports Native entrepreneurs by offering mentorship and business resources. For this exhibit, the program assisted artists with professional development opportunities, including the preparation of artist biographies and descriptions of their work.
“This exhibition is an act of reclamation and visibility,” said Stacia Morfin, Director of the ‘ITAM’YANÁAWIT Small Business Program. Morfin emphasized that the exhibition serves as a platform for representation and intergenerational knowledge sharing.
Smoked salmon prepared by Judy Oatman will be served at the opening event, reflecting Nimiipuu cultural values of hospitality and community.
Acknowledgment was given to Jordan Shawl, ‘ITAM’YANÁAWIT Program Coordinator and Lead Curator of the exhibit, for their role in collaborating with the artists and the Josephy Center to organize the exhibition.
Held in the ancestral homelands of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) people, the exhibit is open to the public.
