Fire Department Recognizes Lewiston 13-Year-Old for Life-Saving Efforts

LEWISTON, ID – The Lewiston Fire Department has recognized 13-year-old Braxton Coy, a student at Sacajawea Middle School, for “his extraordinary courage, quick thinking, and life-saving actions during a traumatic emergency this past weekend,” says a LFD press release.

When a friend sustained a serious neck injury resulting in significant bleeding, Coy immediately stepped into action. According to the release, demonstrating exceptional presence of mind, he quickly applied direct pressure to his friend’s wound to control the bleeding, called 911, and stayed calm and focused throughout the ordeal. In addition to providing critical first aid, Coy promptly contacted the injured friend’s parents, ensuring they were informed and were able to arrive before his departure to the hospital by ambulance.

“Braxton’s swift, decisive, and compassionate actions undoubtedly played a crucial role in saving his friend’s life. His bravery and composure under intense pressure exemplify the very best qualities of leadership, care, and responsibility,” says the release.

In recognition of his heroic efforts, the Lewiston Fire Department is has presented Coy with the Citizen Recognition of Life-Saving Award.

“We are incredibly proud to honor Braxton, whose quick actions made all the difference in a life-threatening situation, and he serves as an inspiring example to our entire community.  The Lewiston Fire Department commends Braxton for his extraordinary bravery and thanks him for reminding us all of the power of courage and kindness in action.,” said the release.
