LEWISTON, ID – Nez Perce Tourism welcomed the American Jazz, a vessel operated by American Cruise Lines, to the Port of Lewiston on its first arrival of the 2025 season.
The visit continues a growing partnership between Nez Perce Tourism and American Cruise Lines, focused on honoring the lands, waters, and stories of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) people. As the original inhabitants of the region, the Nimiipuu shared cultural experiences with the cruise guests, reflecting a tradition of hospitality recorded by Captain Meriwether Lewis in 1806.
Passengers aboard the American Jazz participated in a one-hour “Visit Nimiipuu” cultural presentation featuring traditional singing, drumming, dancing, flute playing, and teachings about the Columbia River, Snake River, and Hells Canyon. The presentation was led by Nez Perce Tourism team members Amaris Mitchell, Nakia Cloud, Maurice Wilson, Stacia Morfin, and James Whitebull Spencer.

During the event, veteran guests were recognized and presented with handmade items in accordance with Nimiipuu protocols honoring service and protection.
The Traditions Gift Shop, managed by Cultural Artist Ambassador Amaris Mitchell, was also present, offering visitors the opportunity to support Native artists by purchasing authentic creations.
The American Jazz was previously christened by Nez Perce Tourism owner and CEO Stacia Morfin in May 2023. Nez Perce Tourism, founded in 2018, continues to focus on sharing Nimiipuu culture with visitors and supporting the ongoing connection to their ancestral lands.
